BOOK CLUBS

Hunter’s Classics Book Club

Second Tuesday of the Month @ 7:00 p.m.

A little J.D. Salinger, a little Iris Murdoch, maybe some Olga Tokarczuk — some classics you know, some you may or may not be as familiar with. Hunter makes the selections (he can be controlling that way); all you have to do is read the book and show up.

Tuesday, March 12 – Raisin in the Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry

Tuesday, April 9 – A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens

There might be beer — classic, of course.

Beaverdale Book Browsers

Second Thursday of the Month @ 6:30 p.m

The OG Book Club, started in 2006 and going strong! What began as a group of strangers has been a testament to the power of books to bring people together. Selections are eclectic and discussion is lively. Food and wine are part of the fun as well. New members welcome.

Thursday, March 14 – Peace Like a River, by Leif Enger

Thursday, April 11 – Burying the Lede, by Joseph LeValley

Mystery Book Club

Fourth Tuesday of the Month @ 7:00 pm

This group has been together for over 25 years, moving to Beaverdale Books when Borders Books and Music closed in 2011. New members are always welcome; all you need is a love of mysteries and a burning desire to talk about them with a fun group of folks.

Tuesday, March 26 – Maximum Bob, by Elmore Leonard
Tuesday, April 23 – Near Miss, by Stuart Woods
Tuesday, May 28 – Malice, by Keigo Higashino
Tuesday, June 25 – Murder in the Parish, by Faith Martin
Tuesday, July 23 – Fortune Favors the Dead, by Stephen Spotswood

(New members are welcome.)

Book Club 802

Join this brand-new book club, Book Club 802, hosted by the African American Museum of Iowa.  The club draws its name from Iowa House File 802, legislation which bans Iowa governmental entities — including K-12 schools and public colleges — from teaching “divisive concepts.  As a non-governmental entity, AAMI can continue to talk about race, racism, and systemic oppression, and invites everyone to join in the conversation.

Purchase a copy of the book –at 10% discount–at Beaverdale Books.  Registration preferred, but not required.

Books and Bonbons

Third Thursday of the Month @ 7:00 PM

This smaller, general interest book club keeps its membership low to promote more in-depth and purposeful discussion. Selections encompass a variety of genres.

Check with us to see if the group is at capacity.

Book clubs receive a 10% discount on their selections.

Also, if you’re already part of a book club you can register with us – just let us know your selection each month. We’ll order copies for your club and you’ll receive the discount as well.
