Yet, it kills a woman every 90 seconds and that rate is rising — how can this be?  Cervical cancer is the canary in the coal mine of women’s health, challenging us all to ask and answer questions about access, equity, and impact. In Enough: Because We Can Stop Cervical Cancer, Dr. Linda Eckert shines light on the human side of the disease, weaving her 30 years of global clinical experience with gripping stories of cervical cancer survivors from six continents. A compelling and hopeful call to action, the book interrogates not just cervical cancer’s cost to women’s lives, but to the entire human community—inviting us all to open our eyes and hearts to women’s health priorities and the impact of a preventable cancer allowed to continue.

Dr. Linda Eckert is a Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Adjunct Professor in the Department of Global Health at the University of Washington. As a provider of patient care for over thirty years, her practice has been based in Seattle, Washington, and she also has worked as a physician above and below the equator and across oceans. Dr. Eckert served as a long-term consultant to the World Health Organization, and has worked extensively with the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and with the CDC. An internationally recognized expert in immunizations and cervical cancer prevention, Dr. Eckert is frequently in the spotlight for her expertise in HPV vaccinations and cervical cancer screening.  Most recently, in August of 2024, was able to travel to Pakistan to collaborate with their ministry of health as they hope to roll out HPV vaccine for their girls.

Dr. Eckert will be joined in conversation by Morgan Newman and Emily Hoffman.

Morgan Newman, MSW, is a resilient young adult cancer survivor, social worker, and dedicated patient advocate who has channeled her personal experience into a powerful force for change. Having overcome metastatic and recurrent cervical cancer at the age of 24, Morgan has committed herself to making a significant impact. Since 2017, she has been a Cervivor Ambassador, driving global cervical cancer advocacy and holding various leadership roles.

Morgan is currently the Community Engagement Liaison at Cervivor, Inc., a Board of Directors member for Above and Beyond Cancer and the Iowa Cancer Consortium, and an active member of the Iowa Immunizes Coalition. She also serves as the Iowa State Lead Ambassador for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. Additionally, Morgan contributes as a patient advocate on the National Institutes of Health’s Enduring Guidelines and Extended Genotyping Panels, as well as the National Cancer Institute’s Patient Advocacy Steering Committee and Cervical Task Force.  Through her dedication and powerful voice, Morgan has inspired countless individuals and earned recognition and awards as a leading patient advocate in the fight against cancer.

Emily Hoffman is a 10-year cervical cancer survivor who was diagnosed with stage IIB cervical cancer at age 30. After cancer treatment, Emily didn’t even realize she had an advocacy voice until she attended her first Cervivor School in 2016. Today, she is an active patient advocate and Cervivor Ambassador who shares her cancer story to raise awareness for ending cervical cancer and to educate others on the importance of cancer screenings and prevention. Emily is the recipient of the 2020 Cervivor Spark Award and the 2022 Cervivor Champion Award. In 2023, she achieved a personal goal set in 2020 when she became a certified cancer registrar.
