About the Author

Lily Okech came to America as a young girl at the age of 15. She started high school in the United States speaking no English and learning her ABC’s as a ninth grader. Within months, Lily was on her way to speaking and writing English and identifying her passion and deep-rooted need to help others.

Born in 1989, under a tree in her home country of Uganda, Lily started her life in a position of need. There was no blanket to greet her, no clean water to bathe in, and limited food sources to help her small body flourish. Over the years, Lily struggled to maintain her health. Sick always, she could see the way others had lost hope in her. She focused on placing her trust and belief in God’s plan for her.

Lily knows the life of a refugee. Of a transplant who has lost family members, best friends, and her home. An American citizen since 2014, Lily watches the way organizations send support overseas to help others – even from her home country – but sees a gap in supporting others – like her – living right here in our community. Lily strives to provide community support for those who may not have a friend to talk to. A family to run to. And for those who may need shelter, food, clothes, bibles, and so much more – just like she did.
