Karen Ziebarth | Two Trails: A Hiker’s Story of Survival and His Mother’s Story of Hope
@ BEAVERDALE BOOKS
No mother wants to get a message that her son is lost in the San Bernandino Mountains.
Karen Ziebarth quickly learned how a rescue operation is put together as she watched skilled professionals and countless volunteers search day after day for any sight of her son Eric and his coworker, Gabrielle. Were they alive? Were they hurt? Why hadn’t Eric found his way back? These were all questions she asked herself repeatedly as she and her family waited for answers. As grueling as not being of any help the rescue teams was for her family, the selflessness and kindness of each volunteer and professional is what kept them going.
Eric and Gabrielle spent five days trying make progress in getting out of the canyon, but each day brought a new obstacle. With limited food, water, and clothing, and no equipment to safely navigate a canyon, every day brought new challenges.
